Concept art for Orbis. Zones, labelled clockwise: Borea, Devasted Lands, Howling Sands, and Emerald Grove.

Orbis is an alterverse where most of the player's story takes place.

Description[edit | edit source]

Orbis seems to be similar to Earth in real life, as it is mostly covered with water and has a few continents on its surface. Orbis has different numbered zones which contain different biomes: mountainous, desert, plains and volcanic. The majority of Hytale 's storyline takes place on Orbis.

World generation[edit | edit source]

While the concept art for Orbis shows a planet with finite surface area, the world actually generates infinitely outwards horizontally. How the world is limited vertically is currently unknown.

Zones[edit | edit source]

Different zones on Orbis.
Main article: Zone

Orbis features at least six zones: Emerald Grove, Howling Sands, Borea, Devasted Lands, and two unannounced zones. Each zone has their own set of biomes, coastal features, blocks and other content such as furniture sets, creatures, plants, weather, and geology. Underground areas, including caves and dungeons, also generate differently depending on the zone they generate in.

Zones continue into the oceans, and if players venture out far enough they will encounter a sudden drop-off at the edge of each zone that leads to the deep ocean. The infinite lands lie beyond this drop-off.
