Minecraft is a sandbox video game originally created by Markus "Notch" Persson and developed by Mojang AB, a part of Xbox Game Studios.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Minecraft allows the player to explore and modify a dynamically-generated map made of blocks. The environment also features different plants, mobs, and items. An optional goal of the game is to travel to the End dimension and defeat the ender dragon.

Multiplayer[edit | edit source]

Minecraft features support for large multiplayer servers.

Hypixel is the biggest Minecraft: Java Edition multiplayer server and was founded in 2013. Two years later, the team decided to create a standalone game, Hytale. At the early stage of its development, the team has been able to self-fund the project due to the success of the Hypixel server.[1]

Development[edit | edit source]

Minecraft started development in May 2009, where it was originally called Cave Game. It went through many development stages before being fully released on 18 November 2011. Minecraft was developed by Notch until its release when he handed the title of lead developer over to Jens "Jeb" Bergensten.
